JPMorgan Chase & Co. reported earnings today, October 13

JPMorgan Chase & Co. Reports Mixed Q3 Earnings

Financial performance was lukewarm compared to the Q2 2010 prior quarter but a major improvement from Q3 2009 prior year, with $23.8B net revenues, $4.4B net income, and $1.01 earnings per share. Net revenues were down -5.1%, net income was down -7.9%,  and earnings per share were down -7.34% from the Q2 2010 prior quarter. However, although net revenues were down -10.5% from the Q3 2009 prior year, net income was up +23.1% and earnings per share were up +23.2%. Net income has been above $4 billion and earnings per share above $1.00 for the last 2 quarters, maintaining an overall  improvement since the dismal performance of Q3 and Q4 of 2008 at the lows of the USA Financial System Crisis. Both the operating margin 26.04% and the net margin 18.54% decreased from the prior quarter but are well above the Great Recession lows

Updated charts of JPMorgan financial data and performance have been posted on the JPMorgan Financial Performance page. The charts are:

JPMorgan Performance by the Quarters
Earnings per Share
Net Revenues, Operating Income, and Net Income
Operating Margin, Net Margin, Capital to Assets Ratio
Return on Assets
Income Statement Components
Net Revenues and Earnings per Share Growth (also included below)

JPMorgan Growth Rates (Chart) Below is a chart of the quarterly (QoQ, Q/Q, quarterly change) growth rates for total revenues and earnings per share. Total revenues and earnings per share have been surprisingly volatile for such a huge financial company ($2+ trillion in total assets!). As the USA financial system and economy stabilize, the growth rates would be expected to also stabilize total revenues and earnings per share. JPMorgan financial performance has continued upwards from the lows of the Great Recession. The chart below covers only some recent quarters through the latest quarter reported, September 2010. The rapid plunge in total revenues and earnings per share and the subsequent rebound as a result of the Great Recession and subsequent recovery resulted in some extreme percentages that obscure recent data. Chart data is:
Quarter, Net Revenues Change %, Earnings Per Share Change %
Jun09: 2.39%, not included -37.50%
Sep09: 3.90%, not included +228.00%
Dec09: -12.99%, -9.76%
Mar10: 19.46%, 0.00%
Jun10: -9.29%, 47.30%
Sep10: -5.09%, -7.34%
